General Review of the Seven iOS Versions

Since Steve Jobs released the first iPhone in January 9, 2007, iOS has gone through five years. With the official arrival of iOS 7, let’s review the features of these seven iOS versions together.

1. iOS 1

In fact, in terms of functions, the first iPhone is far behind other competitors, such as Windows Mobile, Palm OS, Symbian, and even Blackberry. It does not support 3G, multi-tasking and third-party applications. You can not copy and paste text. You can not feel free to add files in the mail. It does not support MMS, Exchange push mail, personalized home screen and voice dialing. However, Apple paid much attention to the core experience, speed, and the continuity of application. Among its achievements, three innovations had a revolutionary impact to the mobile industry. Its core iOS user interface, mobile Safari Web browser and “Widescreen” iPod brought brand new experience to users.

2. iOS 2

When Apple released App Store in July 2008, the second major historical moment of iOS came soon. For smart phones, the third-party application is common. But Apple has brought one-stop experience, allowing users to development, browsing and installation in their own applications store.

3. iOS 3

With the advent of iPhone 3GS, iOS3.0 came out in June 2009. As same as 3GS, the system of this version does not have any main functions. In contrast, through iOS 3, with a large number of features and applications upgrades, Apple filled various existing vacancies of the system. Spotlight search, pushing notifications of the third-party application, MS support and voice playback were added to iOS 3.

4. iOS 4

iOS 4 came out in June 2010 and its main task is to bring more features for advanced users, including multitasking, application folders, WiFi bunding, spell checker, customizable Spotlight search (web and Wikipedia), a unified inbox, and multiple Exchange accounts. Of course, multi-tasking is the biggest selling point of this system. However, iOS 4 is not technically supports true multitasking. It didn’t allow any applications running in the background. In addition to multitasking, iOS 4 also brings some other innovative features, such as FaceTime, Retina display and so on.

5. iOS 5

In today’s smart phone wars, if we say Apple’s hardware is the anvil, then iOS 5 is the hammer used to cast their market share. It brings a large number of new features. Siri, notification center, iMessage, iTunes and Wifi sync, OTA upgrade, iCloud, etc are big innovations what Apple brings to us.

6. iOS 6

What we concern more about iOS 6 is the advent of Apple Map. Because of the lawsuit about patent with Google, Apple has developed its own map service. However, in the beginning of its advent, because of some mistakes, it is ridiculed by everyone. Even the president Cook also published an apology. 7. iOS 7 iOS 7 brings a new look to this a bit older operating system. In addition to younger color and UI, this system also contains a lot of changes. No matter for its exterior or other functions such as AirDrop, iTunes Radio and Touch ID, it aims to bring users more innovative experience. As for the practicality, each person has your own opinion.
